Belmont is a small town in North Carolina with a population of approximately 10,076. It is located around 15 miles west of Charlotte, NC and is home to Belmont Abbey College, a private, liberal arts Catholic college, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
Belmont was officially incorporated as a North Carolina township in 1895 and, shortly after, thrived as a textile center, largely due to the contributions of mill owners Robert Lee Stowe, Sr., Samuel Pinckney Stowe, and Abel Caleb Lineberger.
There are multiple schooling options for residents of Belmont with four elementary schools, a middle school, a primary school, a high school, and a college. Additional private schools and colleges are offered in the nearby towns, Gastonia, Lowell, and Cramerton.
