Electra Kimble Price ( b. February 21, 1926 ) is a retired educator in the public sector who served as a director, consultant, administrator, assistant dean and instructor.
Born in Oakland, California to Thomas Nathaniel Kimble and Clyde Kimble (née Hill), who had met in Arkansas and married in 1918. Both Thomas and Clyde had worked as laborers on a rice farm before migrating to California in 1924.
The couple established a shoe repair shop and beauty salon at 3215 Peralta Street, Oakland, California. In 1944 they sold their shops and house to build and run a ranch in San Martin, California.
In 1944 Electra Kimble Price married John Lewis Price, Jr. in Oakland, California. They had two daughters, Wanda Jean Price and Teryl Leah Price, born in 1946 and 1951 respectively.
John Lewis Price, Jr. (1920-1982) served in the military from 1945 to 1947, and graduated with a Master’s in in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley in 1952. He worked as a probation officer for Alameda County, California.
Electra attended Holy Names College in Oakland, where in 1973 she received her BA in Psychology, and in 1975 her MA in Education. In 1977 she earned her State of California Teaching Credential.
During the course of her career in public education, she worked as an instructor, director, consultant, administrator and assistant dean, as well as a public speaker. She earned numerous certificates of appreciation and awards throughout her career.
Upon retirement, Price became a professional genealogist, specializing in African American ancestry. She was a member of the California Genealogical Society since 1994 and one of the founding members of the African American Genealogical Society of Northern California (AAGSNC).
