Bill Serra was chief pilot for Marlin Air Inc., according to the University of Michigan Health System. The company, based in Belleville, Mich., provides air charter, aircraft management and air ambulance service. Serra, 59, of Macomb Township, received several honors in his career, including the Air Medal, a military decoration for exceptional achievement during aerial flight, and the 1993 Air Force Desert Storm and Desert Shield award.

In an interview with the Detroit News, Serra’s son, William Serra Jr., said, “He touched the lives of everybody he met and he just cared for people. That’s how he would have liked to be remembered.”
