Stephen Roey (Roy), born around 1842-45 in Tennessee, served in Company C, 110th USCT. That regiment was originally organized as the 2nd Alabama Colored Infantry and served in Tennessee and Northern Alabama performing garrison and railroad guard duty. In approximately 1873, he came to Champaign and was employed as a laborer. Roy died on 13 August 1893 as the result of a hernia. The funeral was held at the Second Baptist Church, with interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Urbana.
