The Alabama-base Improvisation group TRANS performed a concert of new music Improvisation Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts on November 19, 1988. Group members Davey Williams and LaDonna Smith from Birmingham, Alabama informed staff that years before they had played the UICA on Front Street. Improvisation incorporates blues, classical, jazz, et. al. in direct responsive techno effect music. The event was held in the performance space in the UICA building on Race Street. It was curated and produced by the UICA Music Committee and supported in part with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.
