List of Local Writers' Groups and Resources

 

  •  Hayward Public Library Writing Group - Meets a few times each month, free for anyone to join. Facilitated by Christine Baniewicz, who has a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and is currently working on a book-length memoir on fellowship at the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto. Please bring 5-10 paper copies of your work to share.
  • Bay Area Spiritual Poetry Readers - Meetup group for people interested in reading spiritual poetry from a variety of cultures. I.e. Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, the Bhagavad Gita, etc. Meets in Hayward, sign up on the site. All welcome so long as you are tolerant and accepting of others.
  • Fremont Area Writers - Local chapter of the California Writers' Club. Come to share work, share writing tips, network, and meet new people. Closest chapter to Hayward, invites Hayward residents to join. All welcome to attend the Meetups as a onetime guest, dues to actually join the CWC are $65 per year, $45 returning members.
  • East Bay Write to Heal Circle - Facilitator Robert Quintana Hopkins, author of Glass Closet: Poems and Essays, leads participants in exercises designed to help them write as a way to heal from past trauma and pain. All welcome, group is free and all pieces are confidential unless participants choose to share. Meets in San Leandro.
