Founding:

Located in the heart of New Bern. Jerry Briele, head golf professional, stated that the course was opened in November of 1988. Weyerhauser originally owned the course before selling it to private investors.  Today it operates as semi-private with members having reduced rates. 

Golf Course:

The recent change from bentgrass to champion Bermuda has allowed for better playability year-round. The rest of the golf course also features bermudagrass which is the staple to the southeastern US. It is a par seventy-two featuring four par fives and four par threes. The front nine will yield many scoring opportunities while the back nine offers a sterner test as you wind through the trees. The emerald showcases the unique ability to test even the best players while allowing playability for all levels. It has proven this by hosting the https://www.swingthought.com/ professional golf tour as well as PGA Tour Q-school. Rees Jones demonstrates his expertise by using subtle rolling hills to offer uneven lies while also allowing the golf ball to ride contours. The par-four eighteenth, a dogleg right with a pond flanking the right side, is the signature hole on the course.  

Amenities and Clubhouse:

The Emerald offers practice facilities where any player has the ability to improve their game. A two-tier driving range that is open year-round featuring a fairway bunker as well as a "pitch flag" as well as a putting green. "In recent years the club has really expanded outside of just golf," said Ricky Stout, assistant golf professional said.  "We've made efforts to serve the entire community by offering dinners and engagements at the pool."  In response to this, we have seen a wider variety of membership age as well as an overall membership increase.
