The area in East Oakland roughly bounded by 82nd Avenue, International Boulevard, Bancroft Avenue, and the San Leandro border is sometimes referred to as the TreeHouse because of the various streets with tree names:
- Birch Street
- Walnut Street
- Ash Street
- Holly Street
- Cherry Street
- Olive Street
- and Alder Street
It is believed that the TreeHouse name originated in an effort to foster economic "development" and gentrification in the area.
As of this writing, however, it is still difficult to find artisanal sausage, Four Barrel coffee, and fancy macaroni-and-cheese in the TreeHouse.
