For tree care, harvesting, storing, making and selling pies, applesauce, apple syrup and whatever you can think of, join Inner City Orchards.

Apples, now over $2 a pound. That’s gold hanging off a tree! You might want few trees. To get the best price, you need to buy 50 trees from a nursery. Can you sell the extra 40 to cover your costs? Climate Kids, put on your badge! Who wants a tree? You don’t have money for 50 trees, so make it like a walkathon and collect pledges first. Talk to friends and neighbors, knock on a few doors, hold an event. Once you have enough people, collect the money, go get the trees and deliver. All the badges, forms and flyers are ready for you.

Some people don’t want to tend a tree. That’s perfect! Because we want a permanent pool of jobs for kids. Summer jobs planting, trimming, harvesting, storing, saucing, making and selling pies.

Some people have trees they don’t harvest. Climate Kids to the rescue! Harvesting, tackling urgent issues of food security for those in greatest need!

You’ll learn skills and earn money too. And have free food all winter.

Maybe you’re not directly interested in fruit trees, but in broader aspects of trees and bees, saving the planet and growing food for the world. We weren’t ready to feed Venzuela. You might organize a fall apple festival to do that.

You may be into beekeeping for honey. You may be into flowers, selling seed, flowers and tools for gardening. There’s no need to market just one thing. Offer a whole package. This is a great way to meet people to get related work. When people see that you do good work, they have all sorts of other work they want done.

It’s not just fruit trees. We need trees for furniture. How about an oak?

It’s wonderful to know you’ve planted a tree. As a kid, it grows as you grow. You can come back years later to see how it’s doing.

Kids, if you want to go big with this, head to the edge of town. So many  properties with big areas of empty land. Offer to plant a whole orchard or plan a designer food & flower garden. Set up a small mushroom growing shed. Ideas like this lead directly into our Farm Assist program. You get them set up for easy operations, and later you get your cut of the crop. You don’t have land but others do. They don’t have time but you do. Can you make a deal? We make it easy by writing out a deal for you. Just edit it to be what you need. Set up a country store if you want.

Parents can make money by building cold storage rooms in sheds or basements. For apples, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and so on. Add that to the package your kids use for door-knocking. Someone might not be interested in a tree, so offer them other things too. That’s just smart marketing!
