The mission of the Santa Cruz-based, national organization of |
Barrios Unidos is to prevent and curtail violence amongst youth |
by providing them with life enhancing alternatives, harnessing |
the power of culture and spirituality, providing avenues to quell |
gang warfare, and offer a promising model for building healthy, |
vibrant multicultural communities. |

This is also the location for the Cesar E. Chavez School for Social Change, an alternative high school (grades: 7-12). The school targets students who can take advantage of a broad-based educational approach that combines a core academic curriculum and a leadership development program, while empowering youths to become positive role models of social change in our communities.
