White Lady: One of the ghosts of Santa Cruz

Here is a story about the White Lady, taken from www.ghoststudy.com. Does anyone have anything to add?

I personally do not believe in ghosts, per-se. I believe in evil spirits, aka demons, that can cause things to occur only through a person, but not inhabit locations/homes etc. I provide the following two stories of my childhood in Santa Cruz, CA. Harvey West Park - Santa Cruz, California Recently a house was built next to the site of an old Chinese graveyard, which was located next to a pre-civil war graveyard as well...When I was approx. 12 I visited this graveyard with my cousins. I lived less than a mile from the site and thought it would be fun to visit it. So we walked there and examined to tombstones. There is a paved stairway leading up the hill towards housing units. We climbed the staircase and found an old shack which we decided to look into, but before we got there an old woman with white hair appeared to exit the shack, carrying a broom she seemed to sweep the front of the shack. Upon seeing us, she shouted obscenities at us and told us to leave, which we did quickly. Years later we went back to the site, there was no shack and no old lady, and apparently never had been one. I've discussed it with many locals, who though hearing similar stories, swear no such shack existed. The woman though seems to have a reputation as a west coast "White Lady" who haunts the town.

new information added 3/2011- by Kelley Richardson if you ask anyone who grew up in santa cruz in the 70's, 80's, or early 90's where "white lady" is and they'll give you directions that will take you straight to the upper end of ocean street extension. this area is home to a property that for many years was home to an abandoned building (which was very popular for graffiti tagging) and a major party spot for high school kids and young adults alike.

it was said to be haunted by the woman who owned and later died on the property. until the abandoned building was torn down about ten years ago, it was still thought of as an eerie place. kids would have parties at night and hang white dresses in the trees - which from a distance, in the dark, appeared to be the ghost of the deceased.

i was out there during the day to photograph the building which was still in place- probably about 1999- and there actually was a white dress hanging in a tree about 50 yards up the hillside.

the area has since been sold and is now just an entrance to another road, but the original gate is still in place.

2012-02-22 12:57:53   "visited" this place a number of times. First time close to sunset, still light outside, with a girlfriend in late 1960's then about four times in late 1970's. It was indeed a very scary place. Last time we, with girlfriends again, went there for a thrill and got it. We never said a word in the house, but we ALL heard a voice moaning and we all looked at each other and ran like crazy back up the hill to the car. We drove to town fast and back to safety. —174.70.134.158
