The Pavilion was located at the northwest corner of Monterey and Toro Streets, approximately at 1166 Monterey/989 Toro, in downtown San Luis Obispo. Originally built as an agricultural pavilion, the building later functioned as the Civic Auditorium, a women's civic club, and Cal Poly student housing.

The building was designed by architect H. S. Laird and constructed by William Evans in the summer of 1888.1, 2
