The Great River Race is an annual event in the Twin Cities organized by Wilderness Inquiry. People can gather in teams of nine, so you can have your colleagues or friends and family, and race a twenty-four foot Voyageur Canoe on the Mississippi River! The seven mile race starts at Hidden Falls and ends at Harriet Island. Once all the canoes have finished, a post-race celebration consisting of music, awards and a picnic follows.

The race benefits the Urban Wilderness Canoe Adventures (UWCA) program, which partners with schools and youth organizations that encourage and educate children by providing enriching nature-based learning to more than 10,000 students each year. Each team races on behalf of a local school in an effort to win that school a $5,000 UWCA scholarship.
