History of Organization
MAHEC was established in 1974 and serves as the largest Area Health and Education Center in the North Carolina system. The function of MAHEC is to address concerns regarding the supply and retention of quality healthcare professionals within the region. MAHEC serves a sixteen county region in Western North Carolina.
